Emily Bowers Bio
My name
is Emily Bowers and I am honored to represent the Evergreen
Rodeo as your princess for the year 2008. I am 17 years old
and proud to be a native of Colorado. I've spent most of my
life in Evergreen having moved from Englewood when I was three.
During my elementary years I spent every summer at youth camp
where I developed a wide variety of interests such as swimming,
baseball, fishing, bowling, volleyball, and footbal. It was
my grandmother's interest in bowling that eventually influenced
me to join youth bowling at the age of 6. I bowled every Saturday
until I turned 14.
Five
years ago my mom and I rescued a horse and, needless to say,
I have been riding horses ever since. I had my first riding
experience with the Evergreen 4-H club "Horse Feathers"
where I was introduced to the Evergreen Rodeo. My love for
horses and rodeo grew which led me to become a member of a
non-profit organization known as Westernaires.
Westernaires
is a professional and unique western organization teaching
and instructing young people ages 9-18 precision mounted drills
and riding skills. I am currently on one of the top Red Division
teams known as The Crimson Rangers. Aside from my Crimson
team I also participate in 3 specialty teams: Dressage - is
a graceful form of control and communication between the horse
and rider. Liberty - is riding without a saddle or bridle,
only with a hoop around my horse's neck and I perform maneuvers
and jumps in unison while developing new skills in equitation
and horsemanship. Belle Star Whips - is a ground specialty
doing tricks using a 12-foot bull whip. In addition to my
own riding and class time at Westernaires I am an active volunteer
in the capacity of a junior instructor and wrangler.
Over the
last four years I have worked at our boarding stable/ranch
where I cared for 22 horses four days a week. During the last
two summers I worked at the same stable/ranch installing and
replacing fences.
Upon graduating
from Evergreen High School I plan to attend Northeast Junior
College in Sterling, Colorado to begin my degree in Equine
Science.
My interest
in the opportunity to become Miss Evergreen Rodeo Princess
started at my first rodeo. I thought that it would be both
a fun and rewarding experience to become a person who is looked
up to in the community. By becoming Miss Evergreen Rodeo Princess,
I will use it as an opportunity to become a role model for
young girls who need someone they can relate and talk to,
and most importantly represent the toughest sport on dirt...Rodeo!
